What Does it Mean to be Bulletproof Strong?
Can a man really live from a heart that is true to himself, God and others? We believe so. God’s word tells us we are made “in his image.” But most men today reflect God’s image but little. We’ve been SO spiritually and emotionally weakened through a barrage of cultural feminizing, passivity, emotional and spiritual emasculation, lies, fear, shame, and addiction that we sorely compare with what God had in mind when he first created us.
“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” Ephesians 6:16
FIERY DARTS. I feel like I get them shot at me all the time, don’t you? They come in the form of someone’s words or a particular situation during the day that makes me feel the impact of INSIGNIFICANCE, INCOMPETENCE or IMPOTENCE; that’s when I’ve been hit by a fiery dart. It’s when I do something dumb or make a bad choice that causes me to feel GUILT or SHAME. It’s when my heart and mind start to believe lies about my value to God and others. It’s that voice in my head that starts talking negatively and saying things like, “OMG. You suck” or “You’re such a failure” or “Why don’t you just admit you’re too weak and quit?” These are fiery darts to me, bullets really…that create real wounds and cause me to lose site of my true purpose in this world.
Bulletproof glass – noun (also known as ballistic glass, transparent armor or bullet-resistant glass); a type of strong but optically transparent material that is particularly resistant to being penetrated when struck by bullets…
What’s the best protection from bullets? Bulletproof glass, transparent armor. The night I made my full confession to my wife about my secret life and hidden behaviors, God moved in our lives and gave me this unforgettable image of BULLETPROOF GLASS. It was a symbolic picture of how I could live life since I had confessed my sin; behind a clear sheet of unbreakable glass. Shame can’t get through. Lies can’t get through. Fear can’t get through. But light can…and it allows others to see me as I truly am. Instead of hiding, pretending, posing…trying to appear a certain way to the world, I can just…BE…and be safe. I loved the image. It was a gift from God that I still hold onto today. That’s why its the symbol of this ministry to others – live transparently, live honestly, put your hope in God and you’re SAFE from the flaming missiles of the enemy.
BE the man God created you to be rather than trying to APPEAR like someone you’re not.
“The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.” – Romans 13:12
Armor of light. That’s awesome protection in this dangerous world we live in, isn’t it? Becoming “God’s true man” means living fully as the men God created us to be – TRUE to ourselves, God and others. We live transparently…behind that “armor of light” Paul was alluding to in Romans 13. What you see is what you get. There’s no pretending or faking or covering up our weakness, flaws and shortcomings. We depend on GOD, not ourselves. We’re developing a life that is as SOLID, STRONG and TRANSPARENT as Bulletproof Glass.
THAT’S “Bulletproof Strong.”
